El Churún- Merú was called by our ancestors in the languague Pemon "Kerepakupai Merú" that means "Instead of jumping deeper", and is also called "El Salto Angel" in honor of Jimmy Angel he was the first man according to the history in landing on the upland of the Churún-Merúin in 1920

El Salto Angel is called by the Indians Kerepakupai-Merú, that the language Pemón means "jump of the deepest place" although it is also known as Churún Merú is a mistake because that name is another leap at the end of the barrel of the devil about 400 meters.
