El Churún- Merú was called by our ancestors in the languague Pemon "Kerepakupai Merú" that means "Instead of jumping deeper", and is also called "El Salto Angel" in honor of Jimmy Angel he was the first man according to the history in landing on the upland of the Churún-Merúin in 1920
